" Historia Magistra Vitae "

The UBC Awareness for World War II in Asia (AWWA) Club was first established in 2009 by a group of three students. The purpose of AWWA is to promote awareness for the unfamiliar atrocities commited during Second World War by means of educating the public, guided discussions, among many other pedagogical methods.

UBC AWWA Club’s official mandate is to promote awareness of the forgotten Asian Holocaust, and to provide a platform for youths to realize the importance of learning the crimes against humanity that happened in Asia during WWII.  While most of our fellow students are well-informed about the Nazi Holocaust, we want the richly diverse student community at UBC to be also aware of this often overlooked chapter of history in Asia.  As a group of young people, we feel obliged to inspire our peers to reflect on issues of peace and justice, and to create an environment for open-minded learning that transcends ethnic and cultural differences.

AWWA operates as a student club under the AMS. UBC students are welcome to join our club, with a membership cost of $5.00. Please contact ubcawwa@gmail.com for more information.
